SS Narayanan's association with Dukhan Cricket

• His association with cricket in Dukhan started in 1998 when he joined QP. Those days matches were sponsored as part of DRC/JRC cricket Dukhan open tournament which was played with contractor teams.

• The cricket playing enthusiasts in Dukhan got together to hold the first ever Oil & Gas Tournaments in 2004. He was part of the Dukhan Cricket Club committee as treasurer under the auspices of CS Department, when Mohd. Salil was its president. He also looked to all technical matters like rules, scoring, statistics, etc.

• (It is interesting to note that there were ten members in this committee and seven are still actively playing except for one member who was transferred and also the President Mr. Salil.)

• Later on when the Dukhan Cricket association was formed as a formal body under the Dukhan Sports Committee and he took over as the head of Technical. He has continued in this association till date.

• A knowledgeable and very ardent lover of the game, he played initially in the Dukhan operations team for a number of years before age pushed him to play for the Community team.

• He has played in quite a few matches in Doha, Al Khor, etc representing the Operations team. He was even once the “man of the match”.

• In 2010 he was the skipper for the Dukhan Community team for which he has the record as being the “oldest captain” in the tournament’s history. He has also received a Man of match in Chairman’s cup once.

• He retired in 2012. He has always said that the “itch” to play remains even when the body is not consenting.

• Throughout his stay at Dukhan he has continued to be an umpire in Dukhan Tournaments and is respected by all teams.

• Last year he was transferred to Doha and hence we lost his presence and patronage for the Dukhan tournaments
